Where does Carrollwood’s water come from?

Like the rest of Hillsborough County, Carrollwood relies on the Hillsborough River as its main water source. The area combines water from three distinct sources: groundwater, river water, and desalinated seawater. In instances of prolonged or severe drought when the river cannot fulfill demand, Tampa procures treated regional groundwater, surface water, and desalinated seawater from Tampa Bay Water.

Contaminants

The water sources for Carrollwood residences generally contain trace amounts of a number of different contaminants. Local governments routinely test and provide reports on these. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.
This includes:

• Arsenic
• Chromium
• Chlorine
• Lead
• Harmful bacteria

However since residents only drink about 1% of the water in these systems, the government does not have the resources to eliminate all of these contaminants completely.
