Where does Riverview’s water come from?
The water supply for Riverview primarily comes from the Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department. They obtain water from both groundwater and surface water sources. Groundwater is drawn from the Floridan Aquifer, an extensive underground reservoir in the region. Additionally, surface water is collected from nearby rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Prior to distribution to the residents and businesses of Riverview, the water undergoes treatment by the Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department to ensure it meets regulations.
Contaminants
The water sources for Riverview residences generally contain trace amounts of a number of different contaminants. Local governments routinely test and provide reports on these. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.
This includes:
- Arsenic
- Chromium
- Chlorine
- Lead
- Harmful bacteria
However since residents only drink about 1% of the water in these systems, the government does not have the resources to eliminate all of these contaminants completely.
