Where does Seminole’s water come from?

Seminole’s water comes from a combination of groundwater and surface water sources. The city has eight groundwater wells that extract water from the Floridan aquifer, which is a vast underground water source. Additionally, the city also purchases treated surface water from the regional water supplier, Tampa Bay Water.

Contaminants

The water sources for Seminole’s residences generally contain trace amounts of a number of different contaminants. Local governments routinely test and provide reports on these. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.

This includes:

• Arsenic
• Chromium
• Chlorine
• Lead
• Harmful bacteria

However since residents only drink about 1% of the water in these systems, the government does not have the resources to eliminate all of these contaminants completely.
