Where does Zephyrhills’ water come from?

Zephyrhills (the city) get its water from a combination of sources. The primary source of water for the city is the Zephyrhills Water Department, which operates wells that tap into the Floridan Aquifer. The Floridan Aquifer is a large underground reservoir that spans much of Florida and provides a reliable source of groundwater. Additionally, the city of Zephyrhills may supplement its water supply with surface water from nearby rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, depending on the demand and availability.

Contaminants

The water sources for Wimauma’s residences generally contain trace amounts of a number of different contaminants. Local governments routinely test and provide reports on these. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.
This includes:

• Arsenic
• Chromium
• Chlorine
• Lead
• Harmful bacteria

However since residents only drink about 1% of the water in these systems, the government does not have the resources to eliminate all of these contaminants completely.
